This is my week off without treatment, I have 3 consecutive weeks of chemo, then 1 week without. All is going along well, I feel great without any side-effects. Still doing 2 wheatgrass shots/day, that I grow myself. I know, it sounds a little risque and hippieish, but I assure you it is wholesome and legal. I purchase wheatberrries from our co-op by a 20# bag, soaking about 3 cups at a time overnight, they then go into a covered colander- overnight as well, getting rinsed 3/day. I have 2 plant trays,(17"x12"), that have drainage holes in the bottom they get 1" of organic potting soil each. The wheatberries will grow tiny tails by the end of the 2nd day, and are laid on top of the soil. These trays are placed inside of 2 larger plastic storage containers to catch the drippings from their daily watering. The trays have tried a couple growing locations in my house, and are presently in my guest bath under the skylight. The berries need indirect light and ventilation for 5-7 days. When the blades of grass look like they have an additional shoot coming up (splitting), it is time to harvest. I use my kitchen shears and give them a grass cutting down to the seeds. The harvest gets placed in a large zip lock bags and placed in the fridge which will keep up to 2 wks. Each trays yields up to 14--1 oz shots of pure nutrients and chlorophyll. Each oz. is equivalent to 2 1/2 pounds of green vegetables! Since the new dietary standard says you need 5-6 servings of fruits and vegetables/day ( at apprx. 6 oz servings), I am getting 13 servings of green veggies/day from the wheatgrass alone! I have a hand cranked wheatgrass juicer, and only juice what we are using at the time, for the juice will decompose rapidly and loose it nutritional value. From set-up to clean-up the whole process is less than 10 minuets, well worth the time and effort for supercharging my body!
I also have started doing "green smoothies" for breakfast, though the color doesn't always turn out green depending what fruits I include. I like to use kale, but spinach or any other dark green leafy veggie works great. I put a cup of water in my Vitamix, lightly fill it with my green veggie, and top it with some yummy fruit. Bananas sweeten well, but I like to use fruit that is high in antioxidants, like the dark berries. Add some ice, blend and enjoy! I fills me up, fortifies and energies me! I have also started working out--yes, really exercising-- at a health spa, and sleeping 6-8 hrs at night--not attempted day sleep! I only wished that I had started on this kind of regime years ago, for I am sure I would never have had to battle stage 4 cancer, or especially not have to put poisonous chemotherapy into my body because the tumors got too out of control. You know what they say about hindsight----perhaps at least someone can benefit from my past errors. My other reward is knowing that I will stop chemotherapy soon and I feel confident that the good I am doing for my body now, will keep me alive and healthy for a few more decades! Although, please take heed in "an ounce of prevention"! See website: http://www.healfastwithgrass.com/
